Carpets made from fishing nets
Carpets from the company “ege” were used in various places in the hotel, which consist of former fishing nets and plastic bottles and are 100% Cradle-to-Cradle certified. This means that the carpet tiles are returned to the cycle after use and can be used again for new carpet tiles.
The combination of short and long pile structure is based on the tree bark and lies under a blanket of simple organic patterns. The carpet tiles from the Ege Foss collection have an Ecotrust felt backing made from recycled PET water bottles. An innovative production technique makes it possible to convert PET bottles into a soft felt material that is durable and acoustically effective. For the top side of the tiles, Ege Carpets from Denmark uses Econyl yarns from Aquafil, which are made from old fishing nets. Nach dem Einsammeln und Säubern der Netze werden sie zerkleinert, eingeschmolzen und zu haltbaren Garnen gesponnen. This takes place in a sophisticated facility in Ljubliana, Slovenia. It enables the recycling of waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill or in the seas, where they endanger the ecosystem. In addition, fossil natural resources are saved about seven barrels of crude oil per ton of ECONYL® polymer. The outstanding benefit of this rug is that the synthetic fiber is not only more hygienic and easier to clean, but existing plastic waste is collected in nature and patches of rug are simply replaced and the individual tile sent back to the manufacturer for direct recycling. In addition, the use of tiles means that there is significantly less waste when laying.
